Case Study: Exit 8
When I joined Bangers & Mash, I was excited by the creative and operational challenges that came with theatrical key art. While my primary role focused on coordinating projects from concept through delivery, I always looked for opportunities to contribute creatively during the earliest stages of campaign development.
Exit 8 quickly became one of my favorite projects.
ESCHER
Exit 8 (NEON) is a Japanese mystery psychological horror about a man who finds himself caught in a looping subway corridor and must spot subtle anomalies in each loop to escape.
One detail immediately stood out to me: throughout the film the protagonist repeatedly passes an exhibition poster featuring M.C. Escher's Mobius Strip II. I saw this as a fabulous art nerd clue of the hauntingly cyclical trap the subway passage becomes. My concept reimagined Escher's impossible geometry as the tiled subway itself, transforming the environment into a giant Möbius strip, which coincidentally echoed the infinity symbol and a giant 8 .
The goal was to create a poster that captured the film's mystery without giving anything away.

My sensational art director had a similar concept and agreed to explore it. She took the core concept and transformed it into a stunning hand-painted illustrated work of art. The final poster has a craftsmanship that only comes from an exceptional artist. I was proud to play a small role in the creative journey and even prouder to watch audiences and the client embrace the final campaign.
